I'ma drop a few verses on this throwback beat. I titled it "Stand Before You Never Above You". Hope you like…

    Verse 1:

It's been a long while; we ain't talked since high school
'How you been?' 'How's life?' 'Hope everything is cool'
however you saw me the last time I'm the same today
I'm just older and much wiser; so not much else to say
I was quirky and obscure but still that hasn't changed
but some stereotypes are still gonna depict me as strange
I was a shy kid but somewhat charismatic
talking to females being nervous was always automatic
now I feel comfortable conversing and kickin' it with you
hopefully you feel the same way about me too
I'm not sexually attractive but I'm cognitively handsome
an innovatively vivid person not a bland one
not 2 virgin bodies but 2 great minds make phenomenons
not only think alike but form unbreakable bonds
a savvy conversation I could never bore you
no matter the interaction I won't stand above you but always before you

    Verse 2:

Sharing my raps to the public; thought I would mention
funny how spittin' a few rhymes can grant you mad attention
with all my might I will never let fame go to my head
because the price and the cost of it I know I will dread
people get caught in that high life like a fish on a hook
longing for the mass appeal and pretentious outlook
next thing you think you're "hot shit" and above the law
egotism so cosmic that you end up hitting a brick wall
and that's the starting point where everything shatters
everything about you; it won't even matter
    people will eventually despise you
inflicting maledictions or spreading vicious lies on you
or perhaps you become a target for all the things you flaunt
and criminals rob you and take whatever they want
or lowlifes with deep rooted hatred and envy
either strike or kill you just to portray their enmity
if you survive now you're depressed and dejected
the people you did wrong could've been avoided or corrected
all these factors boost my goal to always remain humble
I don't need negativity having my small world to crumble
whether if I'm a regular citizen or a hip hop star
I will treat you like a person no matter who you are
but if you attempt to attack me I might push or shove you
overall I will always stand before you and never above you

Great song. Great album. Why doesn't anyone ever address why Erykah Badu shot Black Thought in this video?

This is my favorite song of all time. It never gets old. The storytelling is on point, then Jill's chorus interpreted by Erykah's gorgeous voice, THIS IS IT. RIP Malik B.
