A little late I know, but early video test was really a low light test.

the latest APK I installed is Jan version but I guess unless you flash the device you won't portrait mode. Normal installation gets you only Lens Blur capability. If you found the normal APK with portrait capability please share the link. Thanks.

This is a good demo of the google camera vs the stock essential camera. There are some shots where the difference is significant and there where its just shadow boosting but not giving more detail. Overall though the google camera is a good idea to use with this phone.

No advantage using video with the google camera though.

This phone is good in many aspects just the middling camera.

Dont you think its funny that the essential phone get hate for having no waterproofing, no wireless charging, no headphone jack and "bad" camera's meanwhile the razer phone lacks those specific things aswell

Wanna see a smackdown comparison of two phones the sharp aquos S2 (the first of all bezeless phones and the basis of the design the essential phone used) and essential pH-1. I would like to see that as no one has thought about it or done it!!

I own the Essential PH1 and although the updates has improved the camera quality I find myself always using the Google Pixel Camera apk. But other than that I love this phone and it's an amazing experience.

This video perfectly shows that this phone has pretty good camera hardware (except no O/EIS) But the software drags the camera down too much. Without the Google camera APK, I wouldn't even consider this phone

I think I'll buy the green essential phone once it is finally released, simply as a collectors item. This video has made my mind up. Loved the video and cannot wait for your mate 10 video

Love the hardware of the phone. The camera is steadily improving. They pushed another update yesterday HDR always on and it's made a difference. They main takeaway here is that they are working on improving the software. Is you can deal with that essential is a great option. If not get a more polished experienced phone e.g Pixel 2 XL
