This year has been a tremendous success for the horror genre, with such films as My Bloody Valentine in 3D, the remake of Friday the 13th,Paranormal Activity and The Twilight Saga: New Moon, doing great business after the underperforming horror films of 2008 (Twilight being the champ which many dismiss as even being a horror film), Even smaller films such as The Last House on the Left, The Unborn and The Uninvited have had moderate success. So with so many genre films this year being a success with audiences what happened last year?

I’ve got a 50″ 1080p HDTV – I want to watch my content on it! Well, with a little research and elbow grease, you can use the PS3 Consoles to stream Netflix, Hulu, and more. I use a 3rd party program called PlayOn – it streams all of this content from my PC to the PS3 Consoles, so that it can play on my good TV. Is it the best solution? No, Sony ought to offer its own first party solution for this. But as of right now, buying a cheap piece of software and using it to stream everything works great.

At the bottom of our list at No. 15 is Igor (with $19.5 million), which was a spin-off of the Frankenstein films with the Igor character as the inventor. 2008 was cluttered with animated films as all the major production companies wanted a piece of the pie. This film just ended up getting buried by the Box Office competition and genre fans were not too sure what to make of the kid friendly film since it seemed to be more comedic then frightening.
When my friend arrived and we walked past the group of girls to enter the theater I had an urge to lean over and say “You are all so pretty! Do you know that?” I wanted them to hear words that might feed their obvious hunger for approval. I wanted them to feel beautiful for just a moment. I wanted them to have a taste of the confidence and unconditional self- acceptance that most of us seek to reclaim years later. Would they have believed me? I doubt it.
Overall, this is a classic sci-fi movie of the 1950s with dated SFX, cheese and a few flaws. But it’s great, if you just accept it for what it is and acknowledge when it was filmed and the grandiose predictions of the future. It’s recommended viewing for all sci-fi fans.
