can you not put the apples in the brine after it desolves and let them soak about a minute so you can get more in the jars?

I made the mistake of cooking these and they turned to mush. Then tried cooking the mush in light syrup and they turned into a ungodly sweet liquidy mess. Threw all of it down the drain. We have tons of apple trees on our property over 30 years old and still producing like crazy. A wasted day…wish I would of seen this video BEFORE trying to can rings.

You're right, it does say to do it that way. I've always done it like this and they turned out fine but it's better to follow directions.

I noticed the recipe says to cook the apples in the syrup before putting them into the jars. Have you ever done it that way (and do you have to do it that way to be safe)?

I had watched this video before then after watching your lastest video on you being tagged I saw the apple peeler again and got all excited. I just found the apple peeler at a thrift sotre for $2.47 and got 25% off. Woo Woo Was I a happy girl. Anyway I tried the peeler. Mine has a suction instead of the clamp. It worked great but it has another cutter on the end that makes the apple come out spirl. It looks like I can take off the spirl cutter. Thanks

I've seen that recipe in the Ball book. It looks good and I've thought about trying it but just never got around to it. Now I'm motivated to get those apples canned. YUM! Thanks.

If you forget and add pickle crisp after they have been canned, can they be reprocessed?

and you do a great job. people need to know this and be reminded of where they came from. that way they will know how to survive and know that food comes from other places besides a store.

We've did this with cucumbers last year. I was told to go to the dollar store and get some Red Hots. So I bought all they had, LOL We probably still have a bag or 2 somewhere. 🙂
