Google Pixel 3a Camera Review | The best around?

Review of Google’s Pixel 3a and 3a XL camera, after several days of testing the photo and video skills of these cut-price 2019 smartphones. Although the Pixel Visual Core has been stripped out to save costs, can these blowers still capture fantastic-looking memories?

Thankfully, we can confirm that the Pixel 3a’s camera smarts are up there with the original Pixel 3 mobiles despite the lower asking price. Processing isn’t as quick yet the results are stunning, with HDR, night and portrait photos in particular impressing. Our test video also looks great, offering smooth image stabilisation and natural reproduction even at 4K level.

You get all of the great camera features that you’d expect, including that excellent Night Sight mode and the ability to shoot accurate Portrait photos despite the lack of a depth sensor. Once again, Google has proven that the software is just as important as the lenses and sensor, and the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL can be classed among the best camera phones of 2019 so far.
